In countries where two or more language is spoken, language is frequently political and highly emotive issue. Although Canada is officially bilingual, French-speaking province of Quebec introduced the law in 1976 which, among other measures, banned languages rather than French on commercial signs and restricted admissions to English-speaking schools. In 1988 the supreme court of Canada ruled that some sections of this law were illegal. No sooner had they done than thousands of French speakers took to the streets in protest. Under the regime of General Franco, a Basque language, spoken by about 600,000 people in Spain, was forbidden. So strict was this ban that people using Basque in public could be imprisoned.
Lingual suppression still goes on, but on the whole, governments are far more tolerable of their minority languages. Nowhere has this reverse been more pronounced than in Wales. Until the twentieth century, Welsh was along illegal, and its usage was forbidden in schools and at many places. Only after a long campaign of protests and vandalism by Welsh speakers in 1960s did the British government allow Welsh to become an official language.

Đoạn văn gốc:
Câu đúng: In countries where two or more languages is spoken…
Lưu ý thêm: Động từ “is spoken” ở đây cũng cần được sửa thành “are spoken” vì chủ ngữ bây giờ là “languages” (số nhiều).
Câu sửa hoàn chỉnh: In countries where two or more languages are spoken…
Lỗi 2:
Vị trí: Dòng 1
Lỗi sai: is
Sửa lại: are
Câu đúng: In countries where two or more languages are spoken…
Sửa lại: an issue
Câu đúng: …language is frequently political and highly emotive an issue.
Để xác định rõ “French-speaking province of Quebec”, ta cần dùng mạo từ xác định “the”.
Sửa lại: the province
Câu đúng: …banned language rather than French…
Lỗi 6:
Vị trí: Dòng 4
Lỗi sai: the supreme court
Sửa lại: the Supreme Court
Câu đúng: In 1988 the Supreme Court of Canada ruled…
Lỗi 7:
Vị trí: Dòng 5
Lỗi sai: they
Giải thích: “No sooner had…” là cấu trúc đảo ngữ.
Sửa lại: it
Câu đúng: No sooner had it done than…
Lưu ý thêm: “It” ở đây ám chỉ “the supreme court”.
Câu đúng: No sooner had it ruled than…
Câu đúng: Under the regime of General Franco, Basque, spoken by about 600,000 people in Spain, was forbidden.
Câu đúng: …governments are far more tolerant of their minority languages.
Câu đúng: Nowhere has this trend been more pronounced than in Wales.
Câu đúng: Until the twentieth century, Welsh was effectively illegal…
Câu đúng: …and its usage was forbidden in schools and at many public.
Lưu ý thêm: Hoặc có thể sửa thành “public places”, nhưng “at many public” ở đây là một cách viết rút gọn.
Lỗi 14:
Vị trí: Dòng 11
Lỗi sai: 1960s
Giải thích: Khi chỉ một thập kỷ, chúng ta thường dùng mạo từ “the” đứng trước. Ví dụ: “the 1960s”.
Sửa lại: the 1960s
Câu đúng: Only after a long campaign of protests and vandalism by Welsh speakers in the 1960s did the British government allow Welsh to become an official language.
